Social Policy
What we stand for:

Investing in society.
Given the high cost of social breakdown to our economy and our communities, we believe that it’s worth investing in society. Despite substantial welfare spending, Britain still fails many of its most vulnerable – for example, children in care. We want to break the depressing cycle in which deprivation is transmitted from one generation to the next.

Strengthening society.
We want to empower communities to solve their own problems and help people to become self reliant rather than dependent. We also have an instinctive preference for local or bottom-up solutions, and encouraging people to take the initiative.

Philanthropy and voluntary action.
We are strong believers in the ability of voluntary groups to tackle the most difficult social problems. We want to encourage philanthropy and make it easier for charities to work with Government.
