Discussion with Roger Pielke Jr:

Wednesday 12th May, 2010

Ideas Space

There is no video available for this event.

Roger Pielke Jr. is a professor of environmental studies at the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research at the University of Colorado at Boulder. In the aftermath of "Climategate" and "Glaciergate", with public trust shaken in institutions from universities to the IPCC, Pielke offers some commendably sensible thoughts on how to pursue rational climate policies, getting away from accusations of either "voodoo science" or global conspiracies.

He will speak on the future direction of climate change policy, the challenges posed by the failure of the Copenhagen summit and the impact of elections in both the UK and US.

Beyond the Pollution Paradigm: The failure of emissions trading and the need to make clean energy cheap

Wednesday 29th July, 2009

Policy Exchange is delighted to announce this event and welcomes Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus, the authors of the controversial landmark essay, The Death of Environmentalism.

The essay had a huge impact in the US when it was published in 2004 and they further developed their thesis – that climate change could not be tackled through an environmentalist frame, which had outlived its usefulness – in their award-winning and widely acclaimed book, Break Through.

They went on to establish the Breakthrough Institute, an increasingly influential voice in the US debate on climate policy.
