The big data opportunity with Francis Maude

Synopsis

A transcript of Francis Maude's speech is available here.

The modern world generates a staggering quantity of data and the business of government is no exception. At this event we will explore the latest Policy Exchange research on how the public sector could make better use of big data and analytics to boost efficiency, reduce waste and improve public service delivery. We will also discuss the challenges of finding a balance between realising value from data and protecting civil liberties.

The Rt Hon Francis Maude MP, Minister for the Cabinet Office, will speak about the government's progress to date and his vision for unlocking the power of data across government to deliver joined-up, personalised, efficient and effective public services.

James Petter, Vice President and UK Managing Director at EMC, will share his perspectives on the big data opportunity for the public sector, lessons from the private sector and what it will take to make this agenda a success.

This will be followed by a Q&A discussion chaired by Hetan Shah, Executive Director at the Royal Statistical Society.
