This event will provide an opportunity to discuss the potential effects of the raft of European legislation and directives on the UK financial services industry.
The Commission and Parliament have both proposed a Financial Transactions Tax, a bonus cap introduced in the CRD IV legislation implementing Basle III and very restrictive proposals on investment through Solvency II. More recently, proposals for a European Banking Union which could potentially give the Euro Area a majority in deciding banking regulation across the EU have been announced.
While much of this is well intentioned some of the legislation could adversely affect how much of the financial sector can operate, creating a real threat to its competitive position.
Sharon Bowles as Chairwoman of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs is at the centre of all of the current debate and uniquely placed to discuss how the UK can best respond to protect this key sector.
