Renewable energy targets must be maintained, says industry

"Nuclear and carbon capture and storage would also achieve greater carbon saving if allied with energy efficiency efforts, said report author Simon Moore, who argued that buying renewable energy from countries producing it less expensively would be preferable to current renewable energy plans.

"The UK's commitment to meeting the EU's renewable energy target is actually damaging the goal of global carbon reduction," he said. "If the UK is to set a compelling carbon reduction example to other countries we need to show that emissions can be cut at a reasonable cost. The renewable energy target fails to do this"."
