Abandon renewables targets, says thinktank

Synopsis

"The UK "should negotiate the abandonment, downgrading or its exit" from the EU Renewable Energy Directive, according to a report published today by right-leaning thinktank Policy Exchange.

"Under the directive, the UK has to get 15% of its energy from renewables by 2020, up from 3% in 2009. But achieving this would have "hugely disproportionate costs", the report says."
