Controlling Migration: How can we achieve the right level of immigration in the UK?
According to the Office for National Statistics, the UK population is set to hit – and then exceed - 70 million by 2029. The introduction of a points-based system (PBS) for immigration and citizenship appears to have done little to alter this projection.
What are the impacts of such a large increase in population? Should some kind of population policy determine our migration policy? What economic and other needs do we want to fulfil with immigration? If an optimum level of immigration is possible, how can this be realised? Is an annual cap on immigration the right approach? How might this work?
Confirmed speakers are:
Chair: Richard Ehrman, Deputy Chairman, Policy Exchange
Frank Field MP, Member of Parliament for Birkenhead
Sir Andrew Green, Chairman, Migrationwatch UK
Tim Finch, Head of Migration, Equalities and Citizenship and Director of Strategic Communications, IPPR
