This event will examine what the realistic impact of nanotechnology might be. It will ask whether we can attain high-precise atomic manufacturing capabilities, whether the UK should channel its energy into areas of current strength like nanomedicine, what the possible risks of the technology are and what policy makers should be doing to help advance nanotechnology.
The Miracle Pill: What do brain boosting drugs mean for the future?13 March 2013
This event will examine the potential of brain-enhancing drugs, looking at what their scientific and ethical limits might be, how they might help the developing world and how best to oversee their development and regulation.
Manipulating the Planet: Is there a role for Negative Emissions Technologies in tackling climate change?25 February 2013
This event will discuss the development of major geoengineering technologies called Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs), which target the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and how policymakers should proceed with research into these controversial technologies.
