Arts
The arts and culture are often depreciated in political discourse, but form part of the Policy Exchange research agenda.
In Culture Vultures: Is UK arts policy damaging the arts?, a collection of essays edited by Munira Mirza, guest contributors criticise the claim made by politcians that the arts are now not only good in themselves, but make a vital contribution to the economy, urban regeneration and social inclusion. The evidence shows that this assumption is often erroneous, and has led to arts organisations being constrained by Government 'tick boxes and targets'.
We have also attacked architectural monstrosities in Living for the City, where we recommend that the public should be able to x-list buildings which are ugly and cause social and economic damage for repair or demolition.
