• Chief Economist

Salary: according to experience.

Policy Exchange is one of the UK’s most influential think-tanks. As our Chief Economist, you have the opportunity to shape and influence UK economic policy through our high-quality research. We are looking for an individual with an outstanding academic background and a record of successfully managing a team.

Policy Exchange’s research on economic policy has in the past covered housing, urban regeneration, transport, infrastructure, tax and welfare reform. We are looking to expand the output and coverage of our economics work - an opportunity that you will lead and manage.

Day-to-day, this process will require you to work with a diverse mix of politicians, policymakers, NGOs and academics to oversee the production of first class economic research; produce ideas for new projects; secure funding for our work; write publications and articles; raise the media profile of our work and organize events and seminars. To be a strong candidate, you would have:

- A strong interest in and understanding of economic policy, particularly applied microeconomics

- A good degree in economics, ideally complemented by a post-graduate qualification in economics or a related discipline

- A predisposition towards free market and localist policies

- At least 5 years experience in a policy making environment, ideally with some experience of think tanks

- Excellent writing skills (not only in academic journals, but also for a wider audience, e.g. newspapers and magazines) and experience of the media

- Experience of project management

- Previous experience of either fundraising or grant making would be useful, although is not a prerequisite.
